Mortgage Approvals Rise?

Bank of England figures show a rise in number of new mortgages

New Bank of England figures show a recovery in the mortgage market, with the number of new mortgage approvals up nearly 10% in December.

November saw a near-decade low of 77,000 new loans, but this rose to 83,000 in December - the highest since May 2004.

However, the figures contradict a recent report from the British Banks' Association, which claimed approvals were at a five-year low.
