Levels of mortgage lending hold steady after months of falling

New figures from the mortgage industry suggest that the level of lending has stabilised after months of decline.
Reports from the Building Societies Association (BSA), the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) and others differed on the exact figures, but all agreed that the steady fall in lending has abated.
Levels of mortgage lending are widely used as an indicator of the strength of the housing market.
