Interest Rate Unchanged
The Bank of England Base Rate stays at 4.75%
9th September 2004
The Bank of England Monetary Committee has announced that the Bank of England base rate will remain at 4.75% after their September meeting.
The news follows reports that the housing market is slowing down, even falling by 1.6% in August.
Many commentators feel that this may be the peak in interest rates in the short term, coming after 5 rises since November 2003.
