Halifax to Offer Conveyancing

Halifax becomes the first major lender to offer a fixed fee conveyancing service

Customers of Halifax, the country's largest mortgage lender, will soon be able to arrange their conveyancing through the bank for a fixed fee. Halifax are believed to be the first major lender to offer this service.

'Conveyancing' refers to the legal work done in transferring ownership of a house, and the entire market is worth around £780m a year.

Under the new service, conveyancing will be undertaken on a no sale, no fee basis, with a fixed fee ranging from £299 to £799 depending on the selling price of the property involved.

Users of the service will be able to keep track of the progress of their move online, or by text message, email or letter, with automatic alerts at key stages such as when completed documents are received.
