EU Commissioner Plans Mortgage Reform
Commissioner to cut bureaucracy and costs for cross-border home loans

The European Internal Market Commissioner, Charlie McCreevy, has said that he intends to act on recommendations put forward to open up the cross-border home loan market.
The proposals, formulated by a forum group of financial experts, will cut bureaucracy and costs by removing layers of legislation and harmonising national laws concerning mortgage credit.
European mortgages are worth a collective £2.75 trillion, but only 1% of loans are cross border.
