Mortgage Approvals Rise Again
Bank of England figures show number of approvals at highest level since June 2004
31st October 2005
New figures from the Bank of England show that the number of new mortgage approvals in September was the largest since June 2004, with lenders approving approximately 107,000 new mortgages.
The total amount of new lending also rose slightly, from £7.6bn to £7.7bn.
The figures are widely being taken as a sign that the housing market may continue its recent improvement following the interest rate cut in August.
