Survey Estimates 230,000 Secind Homes
Property consultants survey shows level of properties used as second or holiday homes
5th May 2005
A new survey by property consulting firm Savills estimates that 230,000 properties in England can be classed as second homes or holiday homes.
The second home trend has been blamed for forcing prices beyond the reach of locals in rural or scenic areas, but this survey shows that the single most popular area for second homes is in the City of London, where over a quarter of housing stock is second owned.
The most popular place for holiday homes rather than city bases is the Isles of Scilly (20%) followed by parts of Devon (arund 11%).
Overall, second homes accounted for around 5% of the total stock in England.
