House Prices on the Up Again

April sees a further 1.8% rise

The latest figures from the Halifax showed that house prices continued to rise in April, showing an increase of 1.8% in the average house price.

Despite widespread fears of an overheating market, and a likely further .25% rise in base rates, the Halifax chief economist Martin Ellis said the rises were sustainable, adding

'The market remains underpinned by sound fundamental factors with high levels of employment, low interest rates and low levels of debt servicing costs driving high housing demand. These factors are combining with supply shortages to push up prices'.
