House Prices Rise in February

Halifax announces new figures showing a further rise in property prices

House prices rose by 1.6% in February according to figures from the Halifax, the country's largest mortgage lender.

The rise, while smaller than the previous month's one of 2.3%, took the annual inflation rate to over 17%, adding strength to predictions of a further half-point rise in interest rates over the next few months.

The average price of a house in the UK is now £148,089.
