Corrupt Estate Agent Exposed

Undercover BBC reporter exposes corrupt estate agent

5th May 2004

An undercover report by the BBC has exposed an Estate Agent willing to undervalue property in return for a bribe.

The agent, who has since been sacked from his job at a major south-eastern estate agent chain, boasted of previously valuing property at more than 10% below it's market value, after receiving a £1000 bribe from property developers.

The same program, Brassed Off Britain, also revealed wide valuation discrepancies, with 10 agents valuing the same property at between £225k and £325k, with an independent valuation putting its true value at £260k.
