From £1 to £1m in a Month with Premium Bonds

Woman wins Premium Bonds jackpot one month after buying her bond

1st August 2005

A woman from Hampshire has become the fastest premium bonds millionaire in history, scooping the £1 million jackpot with a bond bought in June.

Given that bonds need to be held for a month before they are entered into the prize draw, the prize represents an almost instant return.

The woman, who has not been named, is married and in her fifties according to National Savings, who run the premium bond scheme. She said in a statement that although she hadn't decided how to spend the tax-free prize, it meant that she and her husband no longer needed to worry about paying for their retirements.

This month also saw the first time two £1m jackpots were offered in the same draw, with the other winner also being a married woman in her 50s, this time hailing from Bristol.
