Unions cancel strike on the 23rd March after government pledges to reopen talks

Unions have called off the public sector pensions strike planned for Wednesday 23rd March, after the government pledged to reopen talks about the future of public sector pension schemes.
The government had planned to raise the retirement age from 60 to 65, but has accepted that its plans were dogged by 'misunderstandings and suspicion'.
The government insists that reform is necessary to avoid a massive black hole caused by people living longer, but accepted that a 'fresh start' was needed in talks to find a way ahead acceptableto all parties.
