Pension Rights for Gay Couples?
Gay couples could soon be granted the same pension rights as married heterosexual couples
30th October 2004
Proposed legislation is to be amended to give same-sex couples the same pension rights as married heterosexuals.
The Civil Partnership bill, which will introduce a range of new legal rights for gay couples, is to include a section promising that the surviving partner of a gay couple will have the right to continue to receive company pension scheme benefits.
The legislation, if made law, will apply to pension contributions made since 1988.
