Online Share Trading
One of the biggest ways the internet has changed finance and investment is in online share trading.
Rather than having to buy or sell shares through a stockbroker, with all the delays and inflexibility that could cause, you can now trade directly from your own desk, buying and selling stocks and shares as you see fit.
Most sites work on an 'execution only' basis, where there is no advice given on your investments, and either a flat fee is charged for each transaction, or percentage of how much your trade is worth.
Most online trading sites will also provide you with a range of tools such as a portfolio manager and access to real-time market data, and some will allow you to 'trade' with virtual money where you can test out the site's facilities before you commit to investing actual funds.
