FSA Hotline for Misleading Ads

The Financial Services Authority calls for consumers to report misleading advertising

6th July 2004

The UK financial wathdog FSA has set up a telephone hotline for the public to report advertisements that are misleading or against the Authority's stringent rules.

Adverts that fail to make clear that investments can be risky can lead to consumers 'paying a heavy price' according to Anna Bradley ofthe FSA.

The FSA monitors advertising and marketing of all investment products including pensions, ISAs, bonds, unit trusts and OEICs, and coverage will extend to mortgages from October this year.

The number to call is 08457 300 168 and is staffed from 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, with all calls being strictly confidential.
