Insurer Drops Terrorism Exclusion
InsureandGo will cover medical expenses of those caught up in terrorist acts abroad
15th March 2006
Travel insurer InsureandGo have changed their policies to drop exclusions for those caught in terrorist acts. Previously, in common with the rest of the industry, standard travel insurance policies specifically excluded paying out as a result of the policyholder being caught up in a terrorist attack.
For those injured in the UK, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority will provide assistance with medical bills and the like, but no such safety net exists for those injured overseas, meaning that many Britons have been left with huge bills to pay in the years since 9/11.
The company says that the risk of being a victim of terrorism was 'thankfully minimal', and so the change could be made without a rise in policy premiums.
