If your pet is unfortunate enough to need extensive treatment, you'll appreciate having taken out an insurance policy, and it needn't cost the earth - nowadays you can get pet insurance for very low prices if you buy online, with monthly premiums starting at around a fiver.

Most policies will also cover other expenses related to your pet such as advertising and reward money if they go missing, emergency kennel or cattery fees if you need to go into hospital, and in the case of dogs third party liability if they injure someone or damage someone's property.
