One in 10 'Lie' When Applying for Insurance
Research by RAC suggests 10% lie when making a car insurance application
11th May 2005
Research from RAC Financial Services suggests that as many as 10% of drivers lie on their car insurance application forms in an effort to reduce their premiums.
The most popular lie was to say their car was kept in a garage overnight rather than on the street, with deliberately understimating the car's value also common.
The RAC points out that this may be a false economy - most motor insurance policies will be invalid if the deception is uncovered, which could be expensive in the event of a claim.
