No Claims Discounts for Named Drivers

Direct Line becomes the first in the car insurance industry to allow named drivers to build up their no claims bonus

7th January 2006

Insurance group Direct Line has become the first in the UK to offer car insurance policies with individual no claims discount levels for named drivers.

This means that named drivers on a policy can build up their own discount levels of up to 70% and then transfer them across to their own policy when the time comes to take one out in their own name.

An example Direct Line give of how this could be useful is that of a 21 year old male driver who would get a 50% discount on his first policy after gaining 3 years experience driving under his father's policy.

Direct Line's motor spokesperson, Emma Holyer, commented:

No other insurer recognises named drivers in this way and this is major step forward for those 18 million motorists who have been paying over the odds for their insurance.
