Travellers Cheques
Travellers cheques are the traditional way to safely carry money abroad, whether on holiday or a business trip.
They have the advantage over cash that if you lose them, they can be replaced in a short period (often within 24 hours) so you won't be left without funds.
They also require a signature and proof of identity to convert them into cash, so they are more secure.
Travellers cheques are now less common than they used to be, with cash being available from your bank account via international ATM networks and credit cards.
American Express have also recently launched a Travellers Cheque Card - a prepaid charge card especially for using abroad, which combines 'the safety of travellers cheques with the convenience of plastic'.
