Insider Dealing
Insider Dealing is the illegal trading in shares by someone with knowledge of unpublished business data or information that would effect the price of shares being bought or sold.
Insider dealers (or traders) will use this sensitive information to their own advantage - for example, an accountant for a company who has knowledge of a planned takeover may buy shares in the target company, knowing that those shares will shortly rise in value. If the takeover plan is not generally available to other traders, this is classed as insider dealing.
Insider dealing is an offence under the 1993 Criminal Justice Act.
