Holding Company

A holding company is a company that doesn't conduct trade or business in any meaningful sense, but exists just to hold ownership of subsiduaries.

This kind of corporate structure has many advantages, not least in terms of tax, and allows a 'parent company' to conduct business in many fields while retaining common ownership.
