Basic Bank Account
Basic Bank Accounts are a relatively new kind of account for people with poor credit, no credit history, or low incomes.
They offer little in the way of extras such as overdrafts or cheque books and guarantee cards etc, but serve as a simple way to receive benefits or wages electronically, withdraw cash at cash machines, and pay bills by direct debit.
Basic Bank Accounts started to appear after the government announced the phased transition to paying all benefits electronically rather than over the post office counter.
