Unclaimed Lottery Cash Reaches £100m
Record amounts of lottery cash goes unclaimed
17th June 2005
National Lottery players missed out on a huge collective amount of cash last year, as the value of unclaimed prizes hit a record £100m.
The unclaimed prizes related to all forms of the lottery, from scratchcards to the main draw.
The biggest single unclaimed prize of the year was from the Lotto Extra draw of August 7th 2004, and was worth £7,093,469 to a punter who bought the ticket somewhere in Belfast. Unfortunately for the unknown winner, the prize wasn't claimed by the deadline of February 3rd, and was therefore forfeited.
If a prize is not claimed within 180 days, it is added to the National Lottery Distribution Fund along with any interest accrued, where it will be shared out among 'good causes' around the country.
