Two Extra Weeks to File Online

Following major problems filing online, failed submissions get an extra two weeks

1st February 2005

The Inland Revenue has announced a two week extension to their self assessment filing deadline for people who tried, and failed, to file online before yesterday's deadline.

The Revenue's online systems were overwhelmed by record numbers of people trying to file their tax returns, leading to many submissions being rejected.

Yesterday, Revenue representatives insisted that anyone who failed to file by midnight last night would have to pay the automatic £100 fine, but has softened its stance as the extent of the problems became clear.

People whose submissions were rejected now have until 14th February to file their return.
