Fast Track for Scottish Mesothelioma Claims

New procedures in Scotland will fast-track mesothelioma claims for terminally ill people

Lord Cullen, Scotland's most senior judge, has announced new guidelines to allow fast-track compensation claims for mesothelioma victims.

Under the new guidelines, mesothelioma victims with a life expectancy of less than 12 months should have the chance to see justice in the courts within that period, and to receive compensation before they die.

Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related disease that responds poorly to treatment, and has given rise to hundreds of thousands of compensation claims around the world. Asbestos was widely used in fireproofing and insulation until it was linked to lung cancer, mesothelioma and other diseases in the 1970s.
