18th May 2005
A new survey from Prudential suggests that Britain's spiralling levels of consumer debt are set to continue, despite growing unease about job security.
The survey suggests that three quarters of adults intend to borrow at least the same amount next year, even though one in five are either concerned or very concerned over the future of their jobs. Job fears were greatest in London and the south east, where almost a quarter were worried.
One in four of the survey's 1,974 respondents also said they had less disposable income than at this time last year.
