Watchdog Blasts Proposed Water Bill Increases
Watervoice, a consumer watchdog on the water industry, has branded proposed price rises unacceptable
7th June 2004
Consumer watchdog Watervoice has condemned proposed water bill rises which could see the average water bill rise by £14 a year, every year, from 2005 until 2010.
In an open letter to Ofwat, the regulatory body, Watervoice chairman Maurice Terry wrote:
'The planned price rises are neither affordable nor acceptable. Government and Ofwat must take prompt action while there is still time.'
The water industry claims they need extra revenue to fund vital infrastructure work, and to meet government targets on water quality.
Ofwat is yet to approve the price hikes - a decision is expected in August this year.
