Energy Saving Scheme Offers £100 Rebate on Council Tax
A pilot scheme to reward people for saving energy could see reductions in council tax bills
11th November 2004
An innovative pilot scheme aimed at encouraging homeowners to save energy has been launched by British Gas and Braintree District Council.
Under the scheme, householders will pay £175 for British Gas will install cavity wall insulation and power-saving lightbulbs, and assess other areas where energy wastage could be lessened.
These changes will save the householder an estimated £395 over 5 years, and the council will also give a £100 council tax rebate to anyone joining the scheme.
If the pilot is successful, British Gas hopes other councils across the country will launch their own versions.
