Another British Gas Price Rise
16 million gas customers face higher bills from today
19th September 2005
Over 16 million gas customers will face higher energy bills from today after British Gas raised its gas and electricity prices by 14.2%, costing the average household an extra &pund;96 a year. BG has now raised its prices 4 times in the last 3 years.
The energy company says the rises can be blamed on a combination of rising oil prices and declining UK reserves, but research by price comparison site uSwitch.com suggest that nearly a quarter of British Gas customers believe that the rises were mainly for the benefit of the company's shareholders.
It's predicted that up to 3 million customers will now look elsewhere for their energy, following the 1.1m who have already left British Gas.
