More Pain for Energy Customers
This week sees large price rises from both British Gas and EDF Energy
27th July 2006
The bad news for UK energy consumers continues this week with the announcement of yet more price rises by two of the country's largest suppliers.
EDF Energy has upped its rates by 19% (gas) and 9.1% (electricity) with around 5 million customers affected, while the latest British Gas rises of 12.4% hit over 10 million gas customers. 6 million electricity customers are facing a rise of 9.4%.
Continuing high wholesale gas prices are, as usual, behind the price hikes, and experts are predicting little respite for at least the next 12 months.
