BSkyB Commits £400m to Broadband Service
TV group joins the broadband race
20th July 2006
Pay-TV company BSkyB has commited £400m of funds to its new 'free' broadband service, aiming to sign up 3m customers by 2010.
Existing Sky viewers will be able to get a low-speed service with no subscription fee, although a £40 connection fee will apply. Those without a subscription must also sign up for the company's basic £15 a month TV package.
Higher speed connections will also be available with the premium top-speed package costing £10 a month with no connection charge.
The company has earmarked the £400m for building up its broadband network, which it says should be available to 70% of the UK population by December next year.
