£437bn a Year Spent on Plastic
Research estimates how much is spent in the UK using plastic every year
12th October 2005
New research by online bank Egg has highlighted the difference between what people think they spend using credit and debit cards, and how much they actually do spend.
The total amount spent annually in Britain is estimated at £437bn, which works out at an average monthly spend of £775 per person. The Egg survey, however, revealed that consumers believe they spend much less, at an average £418 per month.
The bank says that this lack of awareness of how people are spending highlights the need for people to take greater control of their cash, and that the new Egg Money account will help people to keep a tighter rein on their spending.
