Goldfish Sale

Centrica agrees a £112.5m deal to sell the Goldfish credit card and loans operation

1st August 2003

Centrica plc has announced the sale of its credit card and personal loan divison, Goldfish, to Lloyds TSB in a £112.5m deal.

Goldfish Bank Ltd, the operator of the cards and loans, is currently owned 70-30 by Centrica and Lloyds respectively, and will be closed after the sale, with the Goldfish brand and customer base continuing under the auspices of Lloyds TSB bank.

Goldfish featured one of the first credit card loyalty schemes, and was set up primarily as a way of retaining Centrica's energy customers, but the company has decided that the investment necessary to take the bank to the next level would be best directed towards the company's core interests.
