Survey from Virgin Money counts the cost of Christmas credit

A survey by Virgin Money has revealed that the financial hangover from Christmas lasts until the springtime, with the average UK credit card holder taking 12 weeks to pay off their festive borrowing.
The research shows that individuals spend an average of £543 on their credit cards over the holiday season, with £215 going on gifts and £127 on food and drink.
The survey also found regional variations in the amounts spent, with Scots leading the way in the celebrations stakes with a spend of £639, while the Welsh bring up the rear with £479 each.
