40% Still Wait for Chip and PIN Cards

Survey shows that over 40% of people still have at least one non-chip and PIN card

19th January 2006

A survey by card issuing firm Retail Decisions suggests that over 40% of UK cardholders are still carrying old-style signature credit cards, with the rollout of Chip and PIN not yet complete.

While industry figures say that 127 million of the country's 141 million cards have now been switched to the new technology over the last 2 years, some companies have been slow to begin replacing their old cards.

The introduction of chip and pin has already been hailed as a success however, with even the incomplete rollout credited with reducing card fraud by 29% over the last 12 months.
