1 in 5 Still Sign Instead of Chip and Pin
A survey from Visa suggests 20% don't know their PIN
15th December 2004
A survey from credit card processor Visa suggests that new Chip and Pin technology is unused by 20% of people with compatible credit cards.
Reasons given for prefering to sign included not knowing their Pin - either because they've forgotten it or claim not to have been told it - and not knowing how to use the card reading machines.
At the moment, cardholders can choose whether to sign or enter a pin, but from 1st January retailers will be able to demand holders of pin-enabled cards use this method of authorisation.
