Banks Failing Blind Customers on Chip and Pin

Banks are failing to give blind customers correct information about their chip and pin options

The Royal National Institute for the Blind reports that banks are giving misleading information to customers about the changeover to Chip and Pin technology.

A 'mystery shopping' exercise showed that only one in five branches correctly informed customers that traditional signature-based cards would be made available for people who would have difficulty using PIN machines due to disability.

Call centres fared better, but still gave wrong information just over half the time.

Industry representatives acknowledged there was a problem, but said they have been working towards resolving it.
