Barclaycard Denies Late Payment Charge Accusations

Credit card company Barclaycard has denied that it's trying to spring late charges on good repayers

8th February 2006

Barclaycard customers who clear their balance every month would be well advised to keep a close eye on their statments, after the company confirmed that the payment due date may be moved forward for these cardholders.

The company denies that it is doing this to try and maximise late payment charges by tricking its customers, but did admit that they made less money from this kind of customer and so would be reducing the time available to settle their accounts.

Although details of any payment date changes will be on the account's monthly statement, it's advisable to set up a direct debit for at least the minimum repayment in order to avoid being charged for making a late payment, whether through oversight or changed dates.
