First Direct Launches Online Travel Money

First Direct to offer an online, commission-free, next day foreign currency exchange service

14th June 2005

Internet and telephone banking pioneer First Direct has announced the launch of its online, next-day, travel money service, which it says offers customers a great deal on exchange rates without charging commission.

The bank says that differences in commission charges by other currency exchangers can cost the average holidaymaker up to £17 if they don't actively seek out a commission-free service.

As an introductory promotion, the bank is also waiving its usual handling fee for all existing First Direct customers, or anyone wanting to change more than £550, before 31st August 2005.

After that date, currency exchanges will attract a flat rate fee of £3.95 but will remain commission free.
