Cost of Post Office ATMs
£10m a year paid in charges by customers
11th February 2005
The Treasury Select Committee has been told that customers using the Post Office's cash machines are paying a total of £10m a year in fees.
The figure was reported as part of the committee's investigation into fee-charging cash machines, which number around 19,000 - or nearly 40% of all cash machines in the UK.
The Post Office pointed out that people with certain types of current account can withdraw money for free from behind the counter, and said it was looking at joining the Link ATM network which would provide free withdrawals for all customers.
