Ulster's Big 4 Banks Face Investigation
Ulster's 'big four' banks may be subject of Competition Commission investigation
11th February 2005
Northern Ireland's main banks may be investigated by the Competition Commission, after the Office of Fair Trading found possible evidence of restricted competition.
This follows a complaint made last November by Which? magazine and the General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland.
The banks will be consulted on evidence of parallel pricing behaviour and other indications of weak competition, in a process that will last 5 weeks, before a decision is made on whether to proceed to a full investigation.
