300 New Fee-Free ATMs from Halifax

Halifx plc to expand its network of fee-free ATMs

5th May 2006

Banking giant Halifax has announced it is to expand its network of fee-free cash machines by over 10%, adding 300 additional machines over the next five years to bring the total operated by them to 3,000.

The bank has also called on the government to adopt their proposal for colour coding cash machines to make it clear to the public which ones will charge a fee and which ones are free to use.

Halifax, and sister company Bank of Scotland, have already added signs to all their ATMs, coloured green and bearing the words 'Free personal cash withdrawals - excludes credit card cash advances', and are lobbying for all fee-charging machines to have a clearly visible warnings of the charges in red.
