HSBC Reveals Record Profits

HSBC bank's profits up 37%

Global banking group HSBC has released details of its profits for 2004, showing a 37% rise. The group, which operates in the UK, Europe, Asia and America, made a pre-tax profit of over £9bn - the largest ever for a UK bank.

Most of the growth was attributed to strong performance in China and the USA, while around a quarter of earnings came from the UK.
