HSBC ATMs Charity Option

HSBC and First Direct customers can now donate to charity via ATMs

2nd November 2005

HSBC yesterday launched a new service on their network of 2,900 cash machines, allowing their and First Direct's customers to donate to charity when using the machines.

Customers can donate any amount from £1 up to £999,999, initially only to the BBC's Children in Need appeal, although there will be a choice of charities available by the end of the year according to the bank.

The scheme is launched following the success of a similar program run by HSBC in Mexico, which saw around 700,000 donations made every month. The bank says that if all their customers made a donation of just £1, over half a million pounds would be raised in a single day.
