Co-op Bank Announces Record Profits

The Co-op Bank has posted record profits, making ten years of growth

The Co-operative Bank has become the latest bank to announce record performance, with pre-tax profits for 2003/4 rising 6.2% to £130m. Part of the profits will be distributed amongst its employees as an annual bonus.

The bank attributed the profits rise to a combination of higher lending and general growth, with its expansion of its cashpoint network by 500 giving the company greater visibility on the high street.

The Co-op, which owns the internet bank Smile, is well known for its Ethical Investment Policy.
