New Cashback Debit Card Launched

The Halifax introduces the first debit card to offer a cashback feature

15th December 2004

The Halifax has launched what it claims to be the first debit card to feature cashback, more commonly found on credit cards.

With the new card, 1% of everything you spend on 'real' goods up to a total of £10,000 spending will be refunded to you every year. The scheme excludes payments to services such as energy companies.

The bank says that the card is an alternative choice to its interest paying current accounts, and is ideal for those who spend a lot but don't maintain large credit balances on their account.

To qualify for the cashback, you must pay at least £1000 into your account every month.
