Barclays in Slogan Battle

Barclays bank and Cooper Parry in battle over advertising slogan

21st October 2005

A new advertising campaign by banking giant Barclays is under threat, after a Midlands accountancy firm sued over the bank's adoption of a new slogan.

The new campaign features the line "Barclays, now there's a thought", but accountants Cooper Parry say they have been using the slogan for the past five years, and will ask the high court to prevent Barclays from using it too.

While Barclays say they contacted the firm with a joint marketing proposal, hoping that this would allow the campaign to continue, Cooper Parry say that as competitors to Barclays in the areas of investment and tax advice, such marketing would make matters even worse by weakening their brand.
