Barclays Bank offers free money, met with total lack of interest

When a branch of Barclays Bank put a sign in its window offering £5 free to anyone who walked in to claim it, it was met with a distinct lack of interest. Not a single person took them up on the offer during the two hours one January day that the sign was up.
The sign was part of a set of experiments to see what would 'engage the customers interest' and entice them into the branch. Barclays put the failure down to passersby not believing that the offer was genuine.
