Barclays Doubles Your Money

A wrongly-filled Barclays Bank cashpoint in Northumberland gave customers double their money

28th April 2004

A Barclays Bank cash machine in Northumberland was wrongly filled with £20 notes instead of £10, leading to twice the money requested by customers being paid out.

As word got around the village of Wooler, queues formed as people tried their luck with the machine, and around £65,000 was withdrawn.

Barclays have stated that they will not be asking for the money back, but will be seeking compensation from the third-party company who fill the machines.
